He taught at Christian junior high and high schools in Texas and taught biology, chemistry, and anatomy as an adjunct and assistant professor at Dallas-area universities. In 2008 Dr. Thomas joined the Institute for Creation Research as a science writer, contributing news and magazine articles, speaking on creation issues, and researching original tissue fossils. He was appointed as Research Associate in 2019 and Research Scientist in 2021.
He is the author of Dinosaurs and the Bible; author and narrator of Living in Light of Genesis: A Foundation for Faith, Science, and Culture; coauthor of Parks Across America: Viewing God’s Wonders Through a Creationist Lens; and a contributor to Guide to Creation Basics; Creation Basics & Beyond: An In-Depth Look at Science, Origins, and Evolution; Guide to Dinosaurs; Guide to the Human Body; Guide to the Universe; Dinosaurs: God’s Mysterious Creatures; Why the World Looks So Young: Scientific Evidences for the Genesis Creation and Flood; Human Origins; Dinosaurs: Exploring Real-Life Dragons of History; Sea Creatures: Discovering God’s Underwater Wonders; Volcanoes: Earth’s Explosive Past; Universe: Surveying God’s Created Cosmos; Animals: How Creature Features Defy Evolution; Solar System: Proclaiming God’s Heavenly Design; Creatures by Design: Discovering Christ’s Incredible Engineering in Animals; and Fascinating Creatures: Evidence of Christ's Handiwork.
